Discover Medieval & Modern Oslo

Immerse yourself in Norwegian culture with a tour of Oslo’s top sightseeing spots, both ancient & new.

About Your Trip

Oslo — the Tiger City — roars with centuries of rich history, from rampaging Vikings and destructive fires to dutiful royals and world-class artists. Bring your camera and get snap-happy with a tour of this mighty capital city surrounded by a wild landscape of dense forests, sweeping fjords and rugged hills.

The city is full of both medieval and modern landmarks that dot the landscape. On your comprehensive city tour, you’ll see the modern architecture of Bjorvika Barcode, Oslo Opera House, Astrup Feanley Museum of Modern Art and Statoil building. Marvel at Holmenkollen National Ski Arena, which has been around since the 1890s. Then, step back in time at medieval Akershus Fortress as you look beyond the stone walls to a castle with a chapel, mausoleum and museums. Your tour ends with a visit to Munch Museum, housing a large collection by Edvard Munch, Norway’s beloved artist.

During a full day of leisure, explore Oslo and see other highlights on your own before feasting on a delicious farewell dinner.

What we love:
• Holmenkollen ski jump has been the landmark site of skiing competitions for more than 100 years.
• The Akershus Fortress, built in 1299, has been used as a royal residence, prison and government office building.
• One of the 4 versions of “The Scream,” an iconic masterpiece, is housed at Munch Museum.
• Oslo is consistently named among the most livable and eco-friendly cities in the world.

Destination

Although its origins are shrouded in mystery, the trading city of Oslo has stood proudly since 1049, when it was founded by King Harald Hardrada. Oslo sits on the southern coast and provides awe-inspiring views of the Bygdoy peninsula. A few of Norway’s world-class museums, galleries and higher institutions are some of the biggest attractions in Oslo, the capital of this magnificent country. Popular sites include the Norwegian Maritime Museum, the Munch Museum and the Oslo Opera House. Don’t let the urbanization fool you — Oslo is in tune with nature. The city’s multicultural citizens frequent the surrounding forests, lakes and hillsides in their spare time to unwind with outdoor activities. Hiking, skiing and cycling are just a few of Oslo’s much-loved pastimes.
